The IB is comprised of four pro-grams that focus on developing international mindedness and critical and independent thinking that will allow them to become life-long learners. The IB program and Yamanashi Gakuin Senior High School share a common philosophy–a commitment to high quality, challenging, and international education.23SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Collaboration with UniversitiesMost students go on to higher education. A wide-ranging curriculum is offered according to students’ academic objec-tives. Collaboration with Yamanashi Gakuin University and Junior College is one of the distinctive features of the Aca-demic Course, where students participate in lectures and practical training sessions on campus.Extensive English EducationThe Advanced Academic Course was designated a Super English Language High School by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Education, Science and Technology (2005–2008) for fostering graduates with strong English communication skills. While the trimester system is common in Japan, the senior high school recently introduced the semester and credit systems to facilitate study abroad opportuni-ties. A one-year ex-change program and support for overseas university admission applications are also available.
