English Language Education at Yamanashi Gakuin University

　Yamanashi Gakuin University values diversity and inclusion and aims to provide an English language education that contribute to globalization in a positive way. There are four steps to deliver this objective:
1) discovery of diversity,
2) recognition of diversity,
3) respect for diversity, and
4) utilization of diversity.

　In addition, there are also five elements in diploma policy:
1) the ability to comprehend (knowledge and comprehension),
2) the ability to think deeply (decision and thinking),
3) the power to challenge (curiosity and eagerness),
4) the power to emphasize (attitude and ethics), and
5) the power to act (communicability and expression).

　YGU offers the following three locations where students may achieve their learning goals. The first location is the classroom. Next is the “English Café” in Language Commons (LaCoMo) that opened in April 2020 on the second floor of Building 9. This is an open place where students and staff can practice English in a very relaxed atmosphere. Finally, there is the “outside campus,” especially “outside of Japan.” YGU provides programs and financial supports for students to be able to have various experiences abroad.
