Scholarship for Excellence

The Scholarship for Excellence is offered by Yamanashi Gakuin University to students who have excellent grades and serve as a model for other students in various areas, including academic performance (including research papers), acquisition of qualifications, cultural and artistic activities, and social activities.
The scholarship fund is paid out for a single fiscal year and available to all applicable students of Yamanashi Gakuin University with no obligation of reimbursement.

Details

Receiving the Scholarship for Excellence requires a review consisting of a written application and interview. Students wanting to apply should feel free to contact the Student Center.

Special Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students[Only for university students enrolled in April 2019 or later]

As part of the academic encouragement program at YGU, this scholarship program provides scholarships to privately-funded international students who have excellent Japanese language skills and academic achievements and who are role models for other students. It is possible to apply for it every year.

1. Class A Special Scholarship

Academic year Requirements
First year Applicants who meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Applicants must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level at the time of application.
(2) You must have scored 80 points or more in the Liberal arts examinations.
Second year At the end of the first year, students must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Students must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level.
(2) Students must have earned 20 or more credits cumulatively.
(3) Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.3 points or higher.
Third year At the end of the second year, students must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Students must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level.
(2) The cumulative number of credits must be 40 or more.
(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 points or higher.
Fourth year At the end of the third year, students must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Students must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level.
(2) The cumulative number of credits must be 80 or more.
(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 points or higher.

2. Class B Special Scholarship

Academic year requirements
1st year Applicants who meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Applicants must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 level at the time of application.
(2) You must have scored 60 points or more in the liberal arts examinations.
2nd year At the end of the first year, students must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Students must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 level.
(2) The cumulative number of credits must be 20 or more.
(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 points or higher.
3rd year At the end of the second year, students must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Students must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level.
(2) The cumulative number of credits must be 40 or more.
(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 points or higher.
4th year At the end of the third year, students must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Students must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level.
(2) The cumulative number of credits must be 80 or more.
(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 points or higher.

【Note】 The following students are not eligible for this scholarship

  1. Students who enrolled before September 2018
  2. Students from YGGS
  3. Students from iCLA
  4. Short-term students, non-degree students, research students, auditing students
  5. Students whose status of residence is not a “Student”
  6. Receiving a full or partial exemption from tuition fees under any other program.
    (※Scholarship students, semi-scholarship students, athletes designated for special enhancement of sports, and members of cultural and artistic clubs designated for enhancement are not eligible)
  7. Students on leave of absence
  8. Students who are enrolled for more than 4 years in the case of university or more than 2 years in the case of graduate school due to deferment or postponement of graduation (except in cases where there are legitimate reasons such as leave of absence).

 

(2) Scholarship award amounts and the Number of Recipient

The scholarship award amounts and the number of students employed are as follows

※ Class A and Class B scholarships cannot be awarded together in the same year.
※ For Class A, Benefits are used to cover tuition and educational enrichment expenses for the year of the benefit; For Class B, Benefits shall be replaced by the appropriation of tuition for the year of payment and no direct payment shall be made.

(3) Application

Applications for 2nd year students and above are scheduled to be submitted in December (for students enrolled in April) and July (for students enrolled in September). Applicants must submit a copy of their JLPT pass certificate or JLPT pass/fail report at the time of application.

(4) Cancellation of scholarship

If a student who has been awarded a scholarship falls under (1) or (2) below, his or her scholarship may be cancelled.

  1. When a student is disciplined in accordance with school rules
  2. If the student’s academic performance and lifestyle are not suitable for a scholarship
  3. If the application is based on a lie or fraud and it turns out that you are not really eligible for this scholarship

If your benefits are cancelled, you may be required to return all or part of your scholarship.
